Description: Up for sale, a 1970s Ace Tone PS1000 synthesizer in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, freshly serviced by Synapse Audio Systems. This very rare analog monophonic synth was likely designed towards the end of Ikutaro Kakehashi’s time at Ace Tone, which he founded prior to starting the Roland Corporation. Ostensibly the only monophonic synth produced by Hammond under the Ace Tone banner (very limited information is available regarding these Japanese-made synths), the PS1000 has many common features with the more widely-known Roland SH-3A. The PS1000 delivers quintessential ‘70s analog synth functionality and sounds, with one VCO (three wave shapes), one ADSR envelope routable to the VCO (Frequency and PWM), VCF and VCA (with reversible AR envelope), LFO Decay or Decay Envelope, High-Pass Filter, and Portamento. The simple controls deliver a wide range of tones from fat bass to sharp horn-like leads to chugging white noise, with stable tuning. The 37 keys have great action and bounce, and this unit is in remarkably good shape, with the only wear of note being small chips on the bottom of the high F and A keys. All of the sliders and buttons are intact, and the silkscreen graphics are pristine. Recent servicing includes a full recap, disassembly and cleaning of all components, and a rebuilt filter. The PS1000 is built into a rugged black molded case, and all of the rubber feet on the case are intact. The slide-in music stand is also present, and the Nipon Hammond badge on the outside of the case retains some of the factory protective film.
