Description: 1974 Swaziland (Eswatini) 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 Emalangeni Unc Specimen Set w/ COA "SwazilandSwaziland became independent in 1968. Its banknotes are characterized by a distinctive and aesthetically pleasing design based on a traditional Swaziland bead pattern. On the face, the central numeral counter on each note incorporates the shield and spear elements of the national coat of arms - elements which are repeated in the handsome and prominently placed watermark. But within the outline of the shield the exquisitely engraved fineline patterns are different in each case. All the banknotes feature a strong portrait of the ruler, King Sobhuza II; the heraldic emblems of the lion and the elephant; and the National Assembly building. The engraved scenes on the backs of Swaziland's banknotes are especially rich in detail, and the sharp contrast of light and shade the artist has achieved is remarkable. King Sobhuza II's daughters appear on the one-Lilangeni note in traditional costume. The two-Emalangeni note depicts a modern sugar plant. The ten-Emalangeni note shows the Havelock Mines - producers of the asbestos fiber which is a main export. The five-Emalangeni features the Mantenga Falls, symbolizing the unusually plentiful supplies of water. The design of the twenty-Emalangeni is a composite portraying the country's abundant agricultural resources.
