LOT 16 pcs Soviet Russian Vintage POSTCARD Russian gold embroidery Russian gold embroidery is a technique of hand embroidery with gilded (gold) and silver metal threads. The first mentions of gold embroidery art in Rus' are found in chronicles, ancient documents and notes of foreign travelers starting from the 11th century. 2 Gold embroidery reached its peak in the 15th–16th centuries. Initially, hand embroidery with gold and silver threads was used to create church vestments, banners, icons, embroidered iconostases, covers, banners, shrouds, monstrances, bookmarks for the Holy Scriptures and much more. In addition to the church, the customers of gold embroidery were the princely (royal) court and the wealthiest boyars. From the second half of the 19th century, gold embroidery became a folk craft, and artels of embroiderers were created. Belts, morocco shoes, women's clothing, headdresses were embroidered with gold threads; items were embroidered to order and simply for sale. Today, gold embroidery has become a largely secular form of handicraft art. Workshops for such embroidery have been preserved (and are being revived) in monasteries, but it is increasingly used to decorate clothing and accessories, create jewelry, paintings, perform finishing, and so on.
