Description: John McEnroe entered the final of 1984's French Open on a 43 match winning streak. He had been untouchable during that season and was a heavy favorite to lift the champion's trophy for the Grand Slam tournament that is played on the surface least friendly to his game. His opponent in the final, Ivan Lendl, had reached Grand Slam finals in previous years and had lost them all. McEnroe started the match on fire and built a 2 set lead. It seemed the match would be over sooner rather than later. But, Lendl held on and mounted an improbable comeback as McEnroe's frustration and impatience with the slow red clay playing surface caused his undoing. McEnroe recovered from this loss to dominate Connors at Wimbledon, then Lendl at the US Open. His record for 1984 was 82 wins against 3 losses; one of the greatest seasons in tennis history. Lendl took over the world number 1 spot in 1985 and held it for most of the rest of the 1980s. the set scores for this match are 3-6, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5, 7-5. This match is on 2 DVD-r discs.
