Description: This 1986 Nissan 300ZX Turbo was delivered new to Hillcrest Engineering of California, who converted it into a race car for use in the IMSA Firestone Firehawk series GS class. The car was driven to victory by Parnelli Jones in its debut event at Riverside International Raceway in April 1987 and would go on to compete at Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, and Summit Point refurbished in 2003. It won its class at the Amelia Island and Newport Coast Concours d’Elegance and who commissioned a rebuild of the turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 in 2016. Shifting is via a five-speed manual transmission linked to a limited-slip differential, and the car is finished in white with a #85 livery. Equipment includes a roll cage with door bars along with a fuel cell, an AM/FM cassette stereo, electric windows, 16” Ronal wheels, and a fixed-back driver’s seat with a harness. Ronal R9 16” wheels feature white centers with polished lips and are mounted with 225/50 Toyo Proxes RA1 tires. Braking is via four-wheel discs. Suspension modifications are said to include Koni adjustable shock absorbers, uprated springs, and adjustable front and rear sway bars. A black leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel sits ahead of a 145-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and displays for coolant temperature and fuel level. Two auxiliary gauges are found in the center stack, and two Stewart-Warner displays for coolant temperature and oil pressure are mounted to the right of the shifter. The five-digit odometer shows 23k miles, approximately 200 of which have been added during current ownership. The turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 was initially assembled by Hillcrest Engineering and was rebuilt between 2015 and 2016 Components used in the rebuild include JE pistons, Eagle connecting rods, and replacement camshafts. Additional equipment includes a Walbro 255-lph fuel pump and a Dynomax muffler. Car runs with high octane pump gas at the track and street. Can be driven on the street.
