In1819 he took part in the competition of the École des Beaux Arts where he was runner up. Barye exhibited at the salon from 1827 onwards. In a career spanning half a century he had a prodigious output of bronzes imbued with realism and naturalism, and a meticulous attention to anatomical detail.
