Description: A 19TH CENTURY ITALIAN GRAND TOUR ALABASTER MODEL OF THE TEMPLE OF VESPASIAN AND TITUS This is a beautiful late 19th century Italian Grand Tour souvenir model of the Temple of Vespasian and Titus. Handmade of alabaster and standing on a black marble base, 59.5 x 15 x 15 cm, heavy (6 kilos). Very good condition. Notes: A lovely example of a large 19th century Italian Grand Tour architectural representation of the ruins of the Temple of Vespasian and Titus, located in the Forum in Rome. Designed in the Corinthian style the temple was begun by Titus in AD79 after the death of his father, Vespasian, and completed under Emperor Domitian, circa AD87. In the 19th Century the ruins of the temple were fully excavated and models such as this one were made in the Vatican workshops in Rome. Because the Siena marble quarry ran out, subsequent models were made in alabaster, this example is late 19th century.International tracked shipping, dispatched promptly and securely.
