Description: This is a 19th century, vintage, antique, collectible, green, round bottom soda/mineral water bottle. The bottle is approximately 9-1/2 inches long, by 2-1/2 inches in diameter. This type of soda/mineral water bottle is unusual in that it was designed to not stand upright. Instead, the rounded bottom was designed to do the opposite of most bottle bases and ensure that the bottle was laid on its side so that the wired down cork would not dry out and shrink, which could allow the contents to lose carbonation or evaporate. This type of bottle is referred to as "round bottom sodas" or "ballast bottles" since many of these types of bottles were imported from England as "ballast" in ships returning to the United States.
