Description: Turpin was one of the greatest natural history painters and engravers of his time. Largely self-taught, he was inspired by the botanical painter Poiteau, whom he met in Santo Domingo. Turpin was stationed there in the French army, and Poiteau was a plant collector for the Jardin des Plantes in Paris. These prints are beautifully executed engravings incorporating very fine detail. Offered together with a photocopy of the title page as shown in the photo section.
