Description: 2005 - 2010 18 Lincoln SATIN P&D Cent Set Up for sale is a 2005 - 2010 18 Coin Lincoln P&D Satin Cent set. During the years 2005 through 2010 the US mint released "satin" mint sets in place of the normal mint sets. This set contains all of the satin Lincoln cents released during this period. All of the cents in this set will come in their original mint packaging (i.e. the cents have been cut from the mint sets such that the cents remain protected just as they came from the mint). Because these cents came from mint sets which had limited mintages these coins are relatively hard to find compared to the regular business strikes. All of these coins, EXCEPT the special Lincoln Bicentennial Cents from 2009, were minted using copper plated zinc. In 2009 the mint produced four different cent designs (8 in total when accounting for the two mints, Philadelphia and Denver) to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth and also the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln cent. The satin coins in 2009 were minted using the original copper alloy from the original 1909 cents and therefore tend to tone more quickly (and with some nice colors) than regular zinc based cents. Because the mint stopped selling the 2009 mint sets midway through the year in 2009, the 2009 Lincoln SATIN cents are relatively scarce with a little more than 700,000 minted. Please see below from the PCGS website on these special Lincoln cents. Thanks for Looking! FROM PCGS WEBSITEOn October 1, 2009 the U.S. Mint began offering the 2009 Uncirculated Coin Sets. This set contained 36 different coins including eight significant coins, which are all the different 2009 Lincoln cents. The eight Lincoln cents in the 2009 Uncirculated Coin Set were the Log Cabin, Formative Years, Professional Life and Presidency designs. Each set contained all four different Lincoln cent designs with an example from both the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. The eight different Lincoln cents issued in the set were of significance because they were composed of 95% copper alloy, 3% zinc and 2% tin. This metal composition was last used on Lincoln cents from 1909-1942. Additionally, all 2009 cents are a one-year type design that will never be produced again. The Mint sold approximately 771,204 sets of the 2009 Uncirculated Mint Sets, which means that the Satin Finish 2009 Lincoln cents now have the second-lowest mintage in the Lincoln cent series (for non-proof coins that are composed of mostly copper alloy). The four different 2009 Satin Finish Lincoln cents have an even lower mintage than the 1931-S Lincoln cent! The price of each 2009 Uncirculated Coin Set was originally set at $27.95 each if purchased directly from the U.S. Mint. However, the Mint unexpectedly discontinued selling the 2009 Uncirculated Sets on June 15, 2010. And in return, it created some truly scarce coins, especially if compared to other mintages of non-proof coins in the Lincoln cent series. Purchasing the 2009 Uncirculated Coin Set was the only method that collectors could use to obtain the 2009 Satin Finish Lincoln cents.PCGS Modern Coin Expert Miles Standish had this to say about the coins “These are simply wonderful cents. Purchasing these coins is like receiving a double bonus – low-mintage Lincoln Cents and Copper Commemoratives with four beautiful designs of our Nation’s history. They really have a great story of Honest Abe's life.”
