CN's slogan is "North America's Railroad". CN is a public company with 22,000 employees and market capitalization of $C32 billion. CN was once government-owned, having been a Canadian Crown corporation from its founding to its privatization in 1995. CN is the largest railway in Canada, in terms of both revenue and the physical size of its rail network, and is currently Canada's only transcontinental railway company, spanning Canada from the Atlantic coast in Nova Scotia to the Pacific coast in British Columbia. The CN acquired the Illinois Central Railroad (IC) and several smaller US railroads, giving it extensive north-south trackage along the Mississippi River from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico. Today CN owns about 20,400 route miles of track. For auction is a system map of the CN dated 2010. One side shows all rail lines of the CN in red. Lines of other major railroads -- BNSF, Canadian Pacific, Ferrocarril del Sureste, Ferrocarril Mexicano, Kansas City Southern, Kansas City Southern de Mexico, Norfolk Southern, and Union Pacific -- are identified in other colors. The other side has inset maps showing CN rail lines in major cities such as Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver, Canada; and New Orleans, Memphis, Chicago, Mobile and Jackson in the US. It has a station and city index coded to the map.
