In the strait between Åland and Sweden lies the Sälskärs lighthouse. It was lit for the first time in 1868, when the island was inhabited by a lighthouse keeper and lighthouse guards with their families. The lighthouse, one of the most beautiful in the Baltic, illuminated the voyage of seafarers in the hard-tonavigate strait through which people voyage to new adventures or return home. The reverse features the historical province´s coat of arms and the face value, 5 EURO.
