To commemorate this important anniversary, The Royal Mint issued this Alderney £5 silver proof coin, featuring a reverse by engraver Lee R Jones. The design shows two British soldiers wading through the shallows from their landing craft with the names of the five landing beaches, plus Pointe du Hoc. This is paired with Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Elizabeth II. Struck in 28.28 grams of .925 sterling silver, this coin is from a limited edition presentation of 1,944.
