This junction is located approximately 10 miles north of Salem, Illinois. This diamond has the appearance of a scissors instead of the usual 90 degree diamond. The Chicago to Pine Bluff Union Pacific (former Mo-Pac) north-south line intersects with the Canadian National (former Illinois Central) north-south line from Chicago to New Orleans. Recently, a 1.3 million dollar connector was put in place so that trains from both the UP and CN could gain access to each other’s tracks. The diamond and connector have the following appearance: Two twelve-hour days were spent here in April of 2003. Close to 20 trains per 12 hour day were captured on video. Departing from our normal format of showing the locomotive consists and a few cars, we show more cars in this program than usual, though we don’t show the “entire” train. UP, CN, IC, CSX, NS, Amtrak, GT, KCS, WC, SP, and leased power are shown in this video. All trains are identified by direction and rail line. In most cases, symbols of each train are listed graphically also. Approximately one hour, full color, no narration, stereo sound, and onscreen graphics describe the action 24 Hours at Centralia, Illinois... On Friday, April 30, 1999 Neff Video traveled to Centralia, Illinois at the request of local railfans to record the train activity in a 24 hour period. Most of the action occurred in daylight, but night action was recorded as well due to the excellent lighting conditions at the site of the former Amtrak Station. Three railroads are represented: Illinois Central, Norfolk-Southern, and Burlington Northern-Santa Fe. Traffic patterns have increased dramatically since our last visit ten years ago. Thirty-six train movements were recorded in this 24 hour period. It would have been more had not a hazardous material car derailed causing the BNSF and NS mains to be shut down for nearly eight and ½ hours. Full color, sound, narration, and graphics. One hour. Metra Cab Ride-Chicago to Aurora... Travel with Neff Video aboard a Metra Suburban Commuter Train in September of 1996. This trip is broken down into two parts. First we’ll climb aboard the control car and head into Chicago Union Station and pick-up passengers for a run to Congress Park and back. Upon return to Chicago Union we move our camera location to the head-end of the same train and board an EMD F40PHM-2 locomotive. This time our trip will take us on a twilight run to the end of the line at Aurora, Illinois. One hour, full color, sound, and no narration. Chicago Hot Spots...
