Description: Lactuca canadensis seeds, AKA Canada lettuce/ Canada wild lettuce/ tall lettuce, wild harvested from our property, which is about as chemical-free as you get in this upside-down world! This just might be my favorite plant. Very hardy, these are growing happily in our compacted clay soil, or even in our driveway as seen in some photos! (But these grow well in a variety of soils.) Found throughout the US, except in Wyoming, New Mexico, and Arizona reportedly, this variety of wild lettuce is actually quite uncommon to find online as to seed selection. Phenomenally resistant- like many "weeds"- to the increased toxicity of the world, I recommend planting this to help ensure a local food supply without having to tend it! While these grow taller the second year here, and larger, in full sun, they're also growing in areas in which the canopy closes in over the summer, producing less in those areas, but never-the-less still growing. Thus, full or partial sun is best, but not necessarily required. Wild lettuce has been traditionally used in a variety of medicinal applications, and I happily eat it as a mainstay in my salads. It's also great in my pesto! Bitter, this can take some getting used to, but it's free food that you don't have to tend! A biennial, this produces a basal rosette the first year. The second year, a stalk is sent up with showy flowers which then go to seed and easily spread via the wind. Harvested here in the Midwestern United States, in Southern Indiana. Your purchase includes 25+ seeds. From our healthy home to yours! Note that these are not mechanically processed and thus can have some chaff and debris in with the seeds.
