Description: DETAILS: This sweet dress dates to the 1930s, and has clearly been loved, worn, refurbished, and repaired. It is what some vintage lovers call a Candlelight Dress, meaning best worn in romantically dim light where small flaws are less noticeable. This would also work well for theater use. Please see Condition Report. The bodice is fitted with both darting and princess seaming, with a basque-style waist. The scoop neckline and shoulders are covered with draped and folded net. The two layers of sheer glitter dotted mesh are full and swingy with a somewhat up up & down hem - you'll most likely want to wear a half slip underneath. Fabric roses of a kind usually used for millinery accent the dress - one at the left shoulder, and other at the right waist, and the third on the mid front skirt. SIZE: No size label Bust - 32" (81 cm) Waist - 25" (63.5 cm) Hips - 64" (162 cm) Bodice length from shoulder seam - 14" (35.5cm) Skirt length: variable, 29 - 33" (73.5 - 84 cm) Approximate sweep: 190" (481 cm) FABRIC/COLORS: The primary fabric is sky blue tarlatan, a mesh gauze stiffened with glaze. There are all over glitter dots with a few glimmers of silver still visible within each darkish brown dot. The bodice is lined in an light mauve acetate-type fabric. The capelet/collar is one in light blue net, the usual kind, probably nylon. The rose flower embellishments are pale pink fabric with dark green polished fabric leaves and stems. TAGS: No tags CLOSURES: The dress closes with nine hooks & eyes along the sideseam with two small snaps at the top. The original closures would have been a bit more delicate. CONDITION: Wearable, despite multiple flaws. Most of the glitter has faded or disappeared from the polka dots, and I believe the original glue has darkened - see closeup of fabric. I believe the original acetate lining the bodice was the same blue as the rest of the dress, with unstable dye that shifted to pink. The underarms do not have any odor, but they do have bluish water rings - see closeup of inside and outside. From the outside, please note that a former owner patched the blue net fabric, presumably to fix fabric deterioration, and did a nice job. There are small tears to the net along the sideseam related to the hooks & eyes - see closeup - underlying acetate is intact and does not appear stressed. I found one tear in the net shoulder treatment - see closeup.
