Description: Here are 2 real photo postcards of Bear Mountain Inn, 1 of the Highlander Boat which brought weekenders from New York City up the Hudson to the Park and 1 of the boat house at Bear Mountain or Hessian Lake. The cards have the Azo stampbox in the back which was used between 1918 and 1930, and came from a photo album dating from around 1922 and 1923. Bear Mountain State Park is in Rockland and Orange Counties, New York, in mountains off the west bank of the Hudson River. Hessian Lake, formerly named Bloody Lake or Pond is at the base of Bear Mountain. It was at the site of a Revolutionary War battle where the bodies of 250 Hessian soldiers fighting for the British were thrown in the lake. The cards are faded and bright in spots, and have wear and traces of black photo album paper tabs on edges.
