It spent the majority of its service as part of the VI Army Corps and it’s history echoes the history of the corps with battles at Yorktown, Williamsburg, Garnett’s Farm, Golding’s Farm, Savage Station, White Oak Swamp, Malvern Hill, Crampton’s Gap, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Salem Church, Gettysburg, Bristoe Station, Rappahannock Station, Mine Run, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna River, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Winchester, Petersburg again, Saylor’s Creek and Appomattox. It then headed to Danville to head off General Johnston. The book provides a Dedication, (new) Introduction, Bibliography, (original) Introduction, and the text and rosters of the units. The rosters are organized by solider name, rank, age, residence, date enlisted, date transferred, date Re-enlisted, date discharged, date wounded, date killed, date died and remarks (promotions, details of wounding/death, etc.) It has significant tabulated data related to relative casualties and other matters.
