Description: This is one of many great vintage & antique items I'm currently listing from various estates. Please take a look at my other merchandise at your leisure. You are bidding on: Seven Rare Negatives Pacific Palisades, California from the Clearwater Collection ~ Early 1920s ~ Seven historic negatives of early Pacific Palisades, California dating from circa 1922-1923. I found a few of these images online at Calisphere and Santa Monica Public Library websites - but please know these are the original negatives. The images I found online are the first two images shown. For provenance - I've also included two postal covers dated 1923 addressed to the Pacific Palisades Association to keep with the negatives. This material belonged to Clifford and Zola Clearwater - one of the first families to settle in the fledgling community. Clifford D Clearwater, known in his lifetime as "Mr. Pacific Palisades" would purchase The Palisadian, a weekly tabloid, in 1934. Although untrained as a journalist (his previous jobs included delivering the mail by horseback as the town’s original postal carrier), Clearwater had natural talents that enabled him to serve with distinction as editor, publisher, photographer, and civic leader until his death in 1956. First image shows young adults with tennis rackets posing out front of the General Offices of the Pacific Palisades Association. Second image shows man in front of tents at Assembly Camp Headquarters in Temecula Canyon, 1922. I think this area was also known as the Gravel Quarry and may show a glimpse of early Sunset Blvd. Third image shows carpenters at work on one of the first homes. The street shown is likely Via De La Paz. Fourth image shows early cottages in the Assembly Camp in Temescal Canyon (Calif). Fifth image shows road or house foundation construction in the area ? (I wasn't able to find another reference to help me identify the subject better). Sixth image shows children at the Assembly Camp with tents in the background. They stand near an Oak Tree. Seventh image shows three men in front of a cabin in Temescal Canyon. Images on Negatives Approx 2 x 3 Inches. In Very Good Condition. Please see photos for further details Thanks for Looking and Good Luck BiddingSW-JC
