About Blue Ramshorn SnailsYou will receive young leopard blue juveniles (small juveniles tend to ship better than adults), plus extra in case of any DOA - if they all make it you get more free! :) Leopard is a juvenile color pattern and all leopard snails will eventually mature to solid blue as shown in the photo. Pictured is a young blue leopard ramshorn snail and the adult mother. Size is approximately 1/4" and they typically grow to reach 1 to 1.5" in diameter. Shells are VERY healthy with no holes, dents or cracks, though some may have minor natural growth lines. *Please note that some young blue leopards may start off brownish, but they will turn blue as they grow.* These snails are great for a variety of freshwater fish tanks including goldfish and tropical fish. Planted aquarium friendly. Ornamental and useful. ***Live arrival guaranteed!***Won't eat your plantsRemoves and cleans most kinds of algae naturally for a more beautiful fish tank and healthier plantsGreat source of food for many kinds of fishBreak down fish waste for a more efficient nitrogen cycleTemperament: peaceful Temperature: 50-85 degrees FMax growth size: 1.5"Fun to watch & educational Eats uneaten food at the bottom of the tank Acclimating Your New Snails I recommend acclimating your new snails by adding 1 TB of tank water every 10 minutes over the course of an hour, then transferring to your fish tank. This helps ease the shock of new water parameters. Diet They will happily eat many kinds of algae, and will gratefully accept cucumber slices, lettuce and spinach. For the most beautiful shells, feeding a calcium-enriched invertebrate food will yield the best results. Snails prefer harder water but can adapt to softer water if enough calcium is supplied through diet. Reproduction The population of these snails is self-regulating. In an aquarium with a lot of food, they will multiply. When food becomes scarce, they die off. Many fishkeepers believe that if your tank has a lot of snails, it is because your tank needs them to consume all the excess nutrients. However, many fish will happily keep their population in check by consuming the baby snails as a food source, including loaches and goldfish. Growth If you have large fish that may eat small snails and you want the snails to live in your tank, you can use a glass jar or small aquariumto grow the littler snails out until they are big enough. Simply change water as needed or add live plants. Feeding 1-2x weekly with a small amount of algae wafer or invert pellet is a good idea. Supplying a spinach leaf to graze on is as well. The warmer the water, the faster they grow. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message.
