Being a Unitarian he absented himself from chapel and incurred the censure of authorities. His first book "The Right of Protestant Dissenters to a Complete Toleration asserted;" is said to have converted Dr. Parr who described it as "The only good book produced by dissenters". This was followed by "High Church Politics" in 1790, "Vindication of Mr. Fox's History of the Early Part of the Reign of James II" in 1811 and this, his final book, in 1811.
