A Large Signed Andy Davis Handmade Abstract 56 MM = 2-1/8" Dia. Art Glass Marble

Description: OUR DESCRIPTION A Large and Creative Abstract Andy Davis Handmade with a FANCY SWIRL (56 MM = 2-1/8" Diameter) Art Glass Marble. (NPW means Never Played With) It is a One-Of-A-Kind Handmade Marble by Andy in Black and White Colors. This amazing Marble is personally signed by Andy with his signature lower case "ad" hand etched into the north pole of this Marble see last picture for location. This marble comes with Andy's Clear Base that's marked OR Hot Stamped "DAVIS GLASS STUDIO ART WEST FARMINGTON OH.". The Base measures approximately 54 MM = 2-1/8" Dia. by 19 MM = 3/4" High. This is a lovely size contemporary marble that Measures Approximately 56 MM and or 2-1/8" in Diameter, please see last picture for Digital Caliper LCD Display Measurement. The Motif consists of 2 Colors Black and White with an abstract design in the middle portion of the Marble with the North and South ends of the Marble gently working itself into a Fancy Swirl. The pictures do not do this Marble justice and it is much better seen in person and up close. It is getting harder and harder to find an Andy Davis Marble since his passing in 2022 and that is so, unfortunate because he was truly an Renowned Artist Known World Wide. I consider this Lovely Marble to be in Excellent Original Condition. The pontil mark is fire polished smooth but, shows a darker shade where Andy made his signature. Short History: Andy DavisThe Davises are West Virginia's first Family of Marble makers. His Father Jim began making marbles in 1991 after years in the glass making industry, and in 1990's his 5 brothers and himself began to join their father in the marble making business. His brothers Steve and Rick would continue on to make the vast majority of the marbles. Andy Davis was born in 1926 in Harrisville, West Virginia. At the age of 16, he began working for Mid-Atlantic Glass Co. In 1956, he moved to Ohio and joined a steel company, where he worked until his retirement in 1990. Five years later, in 1995, Andy built his own furnace and started crafting beautiful handmade marbles. By 1996, he expanded his craft to include spinning tops and bases for displaying them. In 2008, JABO Marble Company began producing special contract runs of 3/4" marbles, incorporating materials like gold lutz, silver, metallic, oxblood, and Aventurine, depending on investors' preferences. Andy took cullet from these runs and began making large, colorful 2" marbles and matching top sets, which quickly gained attention for their beauty and craftsmanship. Unfortunately Andy Passed away at the age of 95 on April 28th, 2022. ABOUT ME I am first and foremost a collector of many different types of antiques.
