Description: Many are familiar with the ornamental canna, but its cousin " Canna edulis " Achira or Queensland Arrowroot is an ancient edible crop from South America gaining prominence around the world for its edible, starchy roots and its tender young leaves used to wrap tamales, etc. Chickens love the foliage as do other livestock. The orange flowers are less showy than than ornamental cannas, but they still delight hummingbirds. The leaves are green with lovely maroon accents in the veins and edges. You can learn more about Achira in this free downloadable book "Lost Crops of the Incas" here:https://www.nap.edu/read/1398/chapter/4 or read online here:https://archive.org/details/bub_gb_iT0rAAAAYAAJ/page/n38/mode/1up?q=achira I've been growing my plants in various locations in California for 20 years and got my original starts from a now closed plant- explorers nursery in Oregon. They tolerate dry conditions but grow fat and lush in moist soil. I can reliably fit only 2 rhizomes in a priority flat rate padded envelope. If you'd like to order more than 2, I would have to put into a box and send you a revised invoice to cover higher shipping costs. Feel free to message with any inquires and happy growing!
