ACOUSTIC RESEARCH AR 8 IN. WOOFER SURROUND KIT

Description: A complete kit for professionally replacing a pair of surrounds on all AR Speakers that utilize the AR 8 inch woofers. This includes the AR-4, AR-4x, AR-4xa, AR-6, AR-7, AR-18LS and other smaller 8 inch woofers such as those on the TSW series. Additionally this kit is ideal for replacement of the surround on the AR9 and AR90 Lower Midrange Driver. After purchase let us know if this is for the AR 9 or AR 90 Lower Midrange as the dust cover is a bit larger than most. Please state with your payment that you desire the "large" dust cover. If no information is provided a 2.75 inch OD dust cover will be provided. In most cases it will be just a little larger than the original and when in place will cover the lip of the original dust cover which was removed for shimming purposes This kit is assembled from components selected over the years while replacing the surrounds on many, many AR speaker drivers. This is not a generic surround replacement kit. The components and detailed instructions were selected explicitly for Acoustic Research speaker drivers. The kit includes; a pair of foam surrounds with the correct roll size and angular inner rim, a set of shims for centering the voice coil (if you are going to go through the trouble of removing the woofer, go the extra measure and center the voice coil), a container of adhesive (It is strong, fast drying and dries clear.), a pair of dust covers that you literally drop in place when done and a step-by-step set of instructions. There are many surround kits offered on the Internet. For some, the foam will be too stiff, some have too small of a roll, limiting the cone travel, some will require cutting the outer diameter as it is too large and some will not have the correct angular inner rim and above all else some may be rubber which will deaden your woofer. We know all of this as we have replaced many for customers that have sent the woofers to us for repair after someone installed the incorrect surrounds. Now would also be a good time to replace those troublesome level controls on early models with superior controls from VINTAGE-AR. They can be found in Dept. LEVEL CONTROLS. You've removed the grille and woofer and are more than half the way there. If those controls haven't failed yet, they will shortly. This is a weak link in the early model AR speakers such as the AR-4, AR-4x, etc. but then AR never dreamed of a 50+ year life span. Lastly, if you have an older model speaker with the putty like sealer under the woofer, order a package or two of my AR Cabinet Sealer with your surrounds, found in Dept. OTHER SPEAKER SERVICE PARTS. The old sealer is most likely hard and non-compliant by this time. The following are recent comments from two of our customers.
