Description: A great addition to one’s unique and African Hand Beaded “Yoruba” Sash (Diviners Belt) Folk Art collection. Very rare and very old. The intricate hand beading (glass seed beads in the thousands) depicts a Crocodile and 103 Cowrie Shells, two whole body figures and two head figures.Extremely well made and sewn into a type of heavy Brown cloth material. The beaded Crocodile feet have some sort of basket weaved stitching on the backside. My research shows “African “Yoruba” Divination (ceremonial) Belt/Sash Nigerian functioned as a symbol of the owners spiritual position and were worn in public ceremonies by IFA Priestesses of the Yoruba Tribe of Benin,Nigeria. I know very little about this item but those that bid on it know exactly what it is and its purpose over history. It is very old with little to no damage (common age wear) and I found no bead loss, just some loose threads. It is being offered in “as-is” condition and the photos are part of the description.I do not accept returns,so if you have any questions, please ask them prior to placing your bid.
