Thayer, American artist, (1878-1965), signed in pencil lower right "THAYER" circa 1920's. This etching is approx. 3 1/2" x 5" (plate impression) on a 5" x 6 1/2" sheet and printed on thick wove Arches or Rives cream paper and is hinged in a 8" x 10" acid free matt. The etching is unframed and is standard sized ready for the frame of your choice. NOTE; The artist has added watercolor to various elements of the print. Albert R. Thayer, (1878-1965), an American painter, etcher and teacher, was born in Concord, Mass, and studied at the Boston Museum Art School under Eric Paget, Edmund Tarbell and Aldro T. Hibbard. He then continued his training at the Art Students League of New York with William Merritt Chase and Robert Henri. He is known for his landscapes, marines and architectural scenes, and regularly exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and Rockport Art Association. Thayer's oeuvre of original etchings includes scenes of Europe and New England. He often added color washes and watercolor to his etchings to create unique works. Thayer often used his etchings to create Christmas Greetings cards which he printed and sold in Boston, Mass. Albert R. Thayer worked and was associated with notable Gloucester, Cape Ann and Rockport artists Harry A. Vincent, Emile Gruppe, W. Lester Stevens, Aldro T. Hibbard and others. He was a long time member of the Rockport Art Association and served as its' Treasurer for a number of years. He is listed in Who Was Who in American Art, 1564-1975 edited by Peter Falk and Artists of the Rockport Art Association. This is a fixed price sale, however I will consider offers.
