Description: This is a rare, vintage Austin Cox chess set on chrome steel frame with walnut trim and printed blue velvet board. Set comes with original box for wonderful vintage aluminum chess pieces. Another example of this Chess set was featured in the movie John Wick 3: Parabellum in scene 1:24:21 "In 1962, the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) launched a marketing program to advance the selling of their aluminum products. The game of chess was chosen for this campaign as it is associated with intelligence and problem solving. The collaboration between design and marketing, emerged a beautiful, modernistic, abstract chess set designed by Austin E. Cox A.S.I.D. of “Austin Enterprises” and the advertising agency of Ketchum, McLeod & Grove. ALCOA had these sets produced to give to their top customers. This was a fittingly strategic move, since the companies ALCOA currently serviced, or wished to do business with, could proudly display the set with, its ALCOA DNA, in their offices. Features original blue felt board and 32 pieces that were cut from aluminum bars; the white army appearing in a natural aluminum finish, with the black army differentiated by black anodized sides. The pieces are strikingly abstract in form. The Queen is represented by a crown, the Bishop by a simple cross, the Knight is a shield and the King is, fittingly, the symbol of ALCOA. Stamped Signed with impressed manufacturer’s mark to underside of each piece: (1962 Austin Enterprises). The set is complete with original steel frame that the board sits stop of. The board measures 19in x 19in. The chess pieces come in a wall mountable 30.5" long x 6" tall wooden display box with a blue plexi door.
