Description: [Hawaii Promotion Committee] Aloha Hawaii. [Hawaii Postal Envelope with Panoramic and Other Views from Photographs] [Hawaii. 1909.] Photographically-Illustrated Tourist Envelope. Single sheet measuring 5¾ x 24 inches, with six folding panels, per side. Postally transmitted. Small tears and minor loss to envelope’s flap and abrasion to one panel where flap was affixed; light handling wear. A tourist item, functioning as both a means to communicate, and mail a brief message from Hawaii (in this case in 1909), and as a means to promote, in an heavily-illustrated manner, the wonders of Hawaii. One one side, across five panels, are seen images of Kilauea, Volcano House, a lava crack, scenes from The Pah, Pa-u Riders, the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, the Haleiwa Hotel, etc. On the other side, across five panels is seen a single panoramic view, printed from an original photography, of Waikiki Beach “Honolulu’s Celebrated Bathing Resort” showing buildings, boaters, swimmers and the inviting landscape. A small inset of text from the Hawaii Promotion Committee notes the advantageous military position of Hawaii, “...the most valuable possession of the United States. Pearl Harbor, which we are now fortifying and making available as a Naval Base, is a magnificent sheet of water…”Our Stock# 3726760 About Us Established in 1995, Ian Brabner, Rare Americana, LLC buys and sells rare and antiquarian books and historical manuscripts published or created in pre-1900 America.
