Description: Offered here is a set of matching violet hued cassock and sheer fabric surplice designed for wear by an altar server in assisting at Mass and other services in the Roman Catholic Church. The garments were donated by a Canadian parish to a religious institution in my area, proceeds from the sale to go towards supporting their various Catholic Charities. The two pieces are very gently used and graded in fine condition. The cassock is silk, or possibly silk-polyester blend, in beautiful semi-gloss violet fabric, with ten red painted metal snap buttons running down the front. It has two side pockets and is lined in dove gray silk on the upper torso interior. The surplice is sheer semi transparent nylon,with square cross embroidered crosses on the scalloped edged lace portions of the arms, and also running along the skirt at the bottom edges. The cassock measure 46” long, measured from the top of the 1 1/2” wide neck cuff to the bottom of the skirt, which flares to approx. 38” wide. It measures 16” across at the chest, arms are 15” long measured from underarm seam to outer cuff edge. Cuffs are turned back 7”, with 4 3/4” wide openings. The neck opening is 6”-6 1/4” diameter across. The surplice is 22” long measured from center shoulder to bottom scalloped edge, arms 11 1/2” long, measured from underarm seam to outer edge, the embroidered lace portions are 2 1/2” wide, and the skirt on the surplice flare to about 23” across. The square front shirred chest portion is 14” across. These look vintage in age, perhaps circa 1960s/70s, no information on the pieces as to maker or place of origin. There are small hanging loops sewn into the back center of the cassock, with small white tabs included, with the numbers 46 written on it: probably indicating the lengths of the cassock, which should fit an average size younger person assisting at Mass or other services, and the set is all ready for liturgical re-use. We are selling these as a two piece set of cassock and surplice and would request that you do not ask that we divide these and offer either the cassock or the surplice separately at this time.
