Please excuse any glare in the photos. This modernist litho depicts a still life of fruit with a pitcher. The paper has some textural embossing, as shown. It is matted and framed under glass in a silver tone metal frame. The exterior frame dimensions are approximately 28 1/2 inches by 21 3/8 inches. The sight area within the mat borders measures approximately 20 3/4 inches by 14 1/4 inches. Unpacked, this heavy piece weighs approximately 9 pounds. This piece of fine art would be a wonderful addition to a collection of European artworks on paper. Identification This lithograph is by the listed Spanish artist, Alvar Sunol Munoz-Ramos (1935 - ). It is numbered 23/150. The exact age of this vintage litho is not known. This image is referred to as "Still Life" or "Still Life with Pitcher." Verso, there is artist information from Gallery 444 of San Francisco. Per askART, the artist was born in Mongat, near Barcelona, in Spain. He had artistic proclivities from a young age, and started painting in oils when he was twelve. He studied at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Jorge, a prestigious fine art school in Barcelona, from the age of seventeen. He had his first solo exhibition in 1957, before graduation. Alvar was awarded a scholarship to study in Granada for a summer. He won the grand prize in a competition of young painters in Barcelona, and that painting is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern art in that city. Alvar was invited to exhibit in other cities, following his early success. He won another grand prize for his work, for which he received a scholarship to study in Paris. There he met Galerie Drouant director Juan Fuentes. Alvar's Parisian paintings were exhibited at the gallery and they sold out within a week. Alvar briefly returned to Barcelona to marry before moving back to Paris for ten years. In 1962, his works were exhibited for the first time in the United States, at the Monede Gallery of New York City. His first lithographs were produced in 1963 for the Gallerie Drouant. Since that year, he has regularly exhibited in Europe, the United States, Canada, and Japan. Alvar has completed commissions and permanent public installations (murals, sculptures, and paintings) in Spain and France. Condition This piece looks great overall, as shown. The print has not been examined outside of the frame, as it was already nicely framed when I acquired it. It has no visible damage.
