Description: An Iceland Fisherman by Pierre LOTI from The Limited Editions Club (1931) Signed Copy by Artist #287 Binding: Hardcover with beautiful slipcover Edition: Limited EditionCondition: Very Good, no issues observed, See photos. Description of Book: Pierre Loti was a French naval officer/novelist who was well traveled to areas as diverse as the South Seas, Japan and Iceland. In his writings, he adapted some of the impressionistic technique of contemporary painters, especially Monet, to prose. In An Icelandic Fisherman, he gave us a story about the fishermen in Brittany, and the homes and lives of simple and charming people. Description of This Edition of the Book: Illustrated by Yngve Berg, of Sweden, who made 20 lithographs, all of them printed by hand. His lithographs were done with a soft pencil, and both carry the atmosphere of the book admirably but also are decorative and pleasing to the eye. For the book's design, Akke Kumlien was the typographer. The type selected was Cochin, which offers extraordinary simplicity of the imposition of the type/page upon the paper/page, and it was set on the monotype machines. To complement their very rich black ink, the Norstedt pressmen selected a hand made paper made of pure white linen rags from Van Gelder Zonen of Amsterdam, yielding rich impressions and a clear impression throughout the book. Messrs. Berg and Kumlien decided upon a white canvas back strip stamped in gold and green for the title label of the book. For the sides of the binding, Mr. Berg made a lovely all over pattern of fishes (naturally), in tan and brown and blue, which was lithographed. This is number 287 of 1500 copies, and is signed by Yngve Berg. The proceeds of the sale of this book will directly benefit the Lindenwold Library in Lindenwold, NJ.
