Description: This is a fabulous late Georgian 18th century hand-made wooden wheelwrights tool. It was used for measuring the circumference of wagon wheels to determine the length of the iron strip needed. It is very tactile with a large moveable wooden wheel. It is fastened with an iron round rivet at the centre holding the wooden handle together. Intriguingly, it appears it’s made of two different types of wood with contrasting colours adding to its decorative appeal, possibly oak and elm. There are horizontal hand-carved lines or rivets across the wheel. It’s a solid piece obviously with great age and vintage outdoor use. It has clearly been well used giving it a wonderful patina. The carved wooden handle conveniently has a round iron hook attached so that you can easily display it hung up to show off its best position. There are a few nibbles around the edge of the wheel and handle commensurate with age. Overall, it’s just a beautiful piece of treen, which would look fabulous displayed hung up in a kitchen, man cave etc. It’s certainly a great talking piece! Measurements: H 44cm (including handle) W 22cm (wheel) Will be carefully packaged.
