Description: Maker: Extensive research, both online and in many old guide books, has failed to identify the incised marks that appear on this lovely antique cup and saucer set. The quality of the porcelain suggests the set was produced in the mid-to-late 1800s, but that is not confirmed. Design: Whatever its origin, this cup and saucer set is utterly beautiful. A gold-accented blue flow band surrounds a circle of finely painted tiny pink roses and a center of pure white porcelain. It's a style reminiscent of classic European porcelain of the 19th century. The quality of the decoration is excellent. The saucer is misshapen, again suggesting - but not confirming - a 19th century manufacture. Size: The cup is 3 1/8 inches wide and 2 5/8 inches tall. The saucer is 5 5/8. Together the set weighs 8.9 ounces. Condition: There are 3 old chips inside near the cup's edge - shown in the photos with the penny - and a faint old crack in the saucer that extends from the edge to the rim - shown in the photo with the red arrow. There is significant wear throughout, especially to the inner gold on the cup. Despite its flaws, this set remains very beautiful and would make a wonderful addition to any collection of fine porcelain or other antiques. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
