Description: Antique Early 1900's, Alphonse Cytere Rambervillers France, Art Nouveau French Art Pottery Jug Signed. This lovely piece has an organic shape, long exaggerated spout, charming offset handle, gourd or melon shaped body and finished in the absolutely stunning unique iridescent metallic bluish flamed glaze that Alphonse Cytere is known for. A stunning addition to any collection of French pottery and would compliment Art Nouveau, Art Deco, antique, French country, 1920s, 1930s decor styles. Great Used Condition. There are light surface marks and scratches commensurate with age that do not detract on general display. I have used a magnifying glass to show a crack in the glaze. See pictures. Measures approx. 6 1/2 in. to tip of spout x 5 1/4 in. wide diameter at widest part of the body x 5 1/4 in. long including the handle. A wonderful rare piece by Alphonse Cytère (1861-1941) a French ceramist linked to the École de Nancy Art Nouveau movement who developed a flambé stoneware technique. The lustre and metallic sheen of the glaze is just stunning. Layered shades of blue and green iridescence look different from every angle and catch the light beautifully. In 1903, Alphonse Cytere set up an art studio in Rambervillers which produced ceramics often designed by prestigious artists of the Ecole de Nancy such as Bussiere, Gruber, Jeandelle, Majorelle. Rambervillers specilized in unusual and iridescent glazes on organic forms. Welcome and thank you for shopping in my store.
