Description: A 4 1/4" tall cylinder-shaped lithographed antique TOOTH POWDER tin, an antique DENTAL Tooth Powder tin - for the MOUTH TEETH GUMS BREATH THROAT TOOTH. Though you do see these Finlen tooth powder tins from time to time, it is about impossible to find one that is complete, with the original AND correct lid, as this one has. This is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE DENTAL tin dating well over ONE CENTURY OLD, 100 ++ years old.Tin reads in part: "ANTISEPTIC / Benzotol Tooth Powder / CLEANSING - J. T. Finlen Crug Co. / BUTTE, MONTANA." Condition: Tin is in EXCELLENT CLEAN condition. It has just some traces of wear and aging - scratches and scrapes, but NO rust, NO denting, nothing specifically wrong with it, as it shows in the pictures. The cap IS original to this tin, a one-of-a-kind as far as we know! It is also a super attractive looking antique tooth powder tin, with colorful green and red finish. Here's the scoop on this one. Back in the 1960 - 1970's era, an antique dealer got into the old Finlen Drug Company buiding and found a cache of these tooth powder tins BUT none of them had the caps on them. They had never been filled or used and had never went to market. The caps for the tins were never seen or found, and the tins have been sold every now and then but with NO caps. When the antique dealer that made the discovery recently retired, we were able to purchase the rest of the cache of them, without the lids. But at a later time when he sold out his personal collection, one of these with the cap (this one) was with a few other super rare tooth powder tins, from other Montana towns. Long story short, this is the ONLY one of these that has the original lid, and it is for sale here and now. Many collectors of antique dental advertising are dentists themselves, building small collections of quality antique dental items to display in their waiting rooms and offices and this is a prime example of just this sort of thing as it says so simply, "Benzotol TOOTH POWDER". Many of the old dental pastes and powders like this tin originally contained were not much more than a flavored powder or paste, yet it was claimed that they had secret medicinal properties that, if used regularly, could cure any type of past or present disease of the mouth, gums, throat, things that they still can't cure today.
