Description: Antique Black & Gold American Family Scale "Strawbridge & Clothier" Philadelphia, PA Product Description: What began as a dry goods store by Justus C. Strawbridge and Isaac H. Clothier in 1868 became a major department store through the late 1900s. This antique American Family Scale was once a part of Strawbridge & Clothier history from the Philadelphia region. It showcases a raised, cast iron platform with a round glass-less dial face, stenciled gold/bronze color trim, Japanned or blackened metal body and a tin weighing pan. The special features are both the script, stenciled American Family Scale name on two sides and a brass plaque beneath the round face with incised advertising of "Strawbridge & Clothier Philadelphia, PA." A rare find with history, waiting to be a part of your collection. Note: Refer to "Condition" for additional information Patent Date: Oct. 25, 1898 (marked on dial face) Circa: Late 1800s – Early 1900s Dimensions: Height: 10” (to top of round platform)Base: 7” x 6 1/8”Diameter of Dial Face: 6”Diameter of Top: 5 1/8” Product Weight: 3 lbs 13 ounces (without tin pan), 4 lbs 4 ounces (with pan) Color: Black & Gold Origin: United States Condition: Previously owned - used. Condition is consistent with age and use. Wear, rust, scratches and some loss of black and gold paint. Missing top of calibration knob although still turns and functions as it should. Areas of rust on glass-less dial face, metal body and moreso on top base (as shown). Tin pan exhibits heavy patina. Earlier repair around inside base of tin basket where it attaches to top portion (as shown). It is not known if pan is original to scale.
