Description: Antique Celluloid Vanity Box w Accessories hand mirror brush buffer jar Here is an early 20th century celluloid and cloth covered ladies dresser vanity box. It has a hinged lid with latch and the interior has inserts to hold various vanity accessories. Some of the original accessories are included: hand mirror, hair brush, nail buffer and covered pot / jar. Other accessories are missing (probably manicure items). The interior is cloth lined. Original brass hinges and working clasp. I have placed a ruler in some pictures for size reference. The box is approx. 10 1/4" long x 7 1/4" wide and 2 7/8" tall at the upper corners. The box with accessories weighs about 1 lb 14 oz. The lid has rounded corners. The wood box is covered with a combination of a mini purple floral paper covering, a worn floral print velvet-type cloth covering, and the center lid has a decorative celluloid covering. The celluloid pictures an interior room or tavern scene with a man strumming a guitar for a pretty lass who is holding a lyre or other instrument on her lap. Old-fashioned European country peasant or gypsy style dress. The lower back of the celluloid covering has a mini purple floral print that matches the mini floral paper covering that is applied along the sides and base. The interior lining is pink-red silk-like cloth. The bottom has black paper covering (and it looks like there is red paper underneath that peeks through the tears). The hand mirror and hair brush have some type of ivory composite covering with a fancy floral design. The nail buffer and pot are pyralin or plastic. Please view the pictures to judge condition. I have shown all sides and the bottom and interior. The celluloid is in very good condition with light wear and aging overall, a few little spots and marks. The velvet-type fabric was a bright purple, white & black floral print, however much of the nap worn off and the colors have faded, aged and soiled. You can see some of the original color at the lower back corners. The paper covering has wear, loss, tears, soiling - more along the base, and there is a water stain on one side. The lining has frays, tears and soiling. There is a clip inside the lid to hold the hand mirror in place and several wood tabs under the lining to hold the accessories - some of these tabs have come loose under the lining. The brush and mirror have age tanning or soiling, some cracks and little chips in the composite. The beveled glass mirror has spotting, and no cracks. The brush has some bristle loss. The nail buffer has light wear and aging overall. The pot has some darkening and little chips along the inner rim. The black paper bottom covering has tears and loss. The brass hardware has finish wear and tarnish darkening. No musty or smoke odor. Store inventory number 9494.
