Description: This Vintage DISSTON ACME 120 Panel Saw is 24.5 inches long with the blade being 20 Inches long and made of EXTRA LONDON SPRING STEEL. It is part of a group of relatively uncommon saws and as a result are RARELY FOUND today. The #120 was fitted with a SKEW BACK BLADE, APPLE HANDLE with CARVED WHEAT embellishment with 3 BRASS screws. Made with deeper tooth gullets and an extreme taper ground blade allowing it to be used without applying set to the teeth. Marketed for use in dry seasoned lumber only. TRULY a PIECE of HISTORY. We actually found this saw listed in the 1914 DISSTON CATALOG. Research told us this particular saw was made between 1874 until about 1928. Features an ultra-tapered and hardened blade, filing with tall, narrow gullets. Purpose was to have a saw that could cut so smoothly in furniture-grade dry hardwood that joints and miters could be assembled with no need for planing. The saw's etch had instructions for its use and maintenance. VERY NICE Condition for its age with Nice Patina. Blade is straight and feels smooth. A little discoloration on blade but No rust or pitting. Etching on blade is light in few spots but most words can be read. Etching on the saw plate Picture diagram reads: " Henry Disston & Sons - Acme 120 - Pat. June 23rd, 1874, PHILADELPHIA". Wording on the blade reads: "Warranted to run without set in dry seasoned lumber only and is not for general use. Being very hard, any attempt to set may break the teeth." The WOOD HANDLE appears to have No chips, cracks or repairs. The BACK of the HANDLE has a cleverly stamped "P" and "L". said to indicate this was a PANEL SAW. SAW TEETH are sharp with No broken teeth. MEDALLIAN on the handle is 13/16" in diameter. Stars on the Medallion are 5 points. Also words on Medalliion say "H. DISSTON & SONS - PHILADA". From a SMOKE-FREE and PET-FREE home. See photos as they are part of the description. Ask any questions. I have tried to provide enough pictures for you to make a fair assessment of this saw. A Conversation Piece for sure. GREAT Display piece or gift for the Tool Collector, Handyman, Carpenter, or Woodworker.
