Description: This antique figure of a shepherd holding his staff is the actual figure pictured in the book Staffordshire Figures 1780-1840 Volume 1 by Myrna Schkolne on page 192. You can tell by the areas of missing paint on the shoe, pants, right hand, the repaired/touched up H and E in Shepherd, the unusually thin and perfect staff, the coloring and glaze flows, and more. There have been additions of a missing flower and bocage tip repairs since the photo for the book was taken. Attributed to the Sherratt group in Staffordshire which was producing pottery figures from 1820-1840. In very good antique condition for a Staffordshire figure of this age. The shepherd's left hand has been reattached, the staff has been repaired/replaced, some bocage has been repaired, part of the hat decoration has chipped off, one flower has been repaired, and there is missing paint or repainting on the jacket, shoes, pants, hand and base. See photos for these condition issues and please ask questions. Approximately 6 1/4" tall x 3 1/2" wide x 2" deep Provenance: acquired from the collection of famed Staffordshire figure collector and dealer Elinor Penna who founded the Staffordshire Figure Association and has had samples of her collection featured in major publications.
