Description: Vintage large wood carved lamp base, made of nicely polished beautiful grain exotic ebony wood. Intricately detailed carvings with figures of man and woman, tendrils and flowers with scenes from the Ramayana in the woods. The top of the lamp base is painted red and yellow. The remaining parts appear to be smoothly polished but unfinished, showing the beautiful wood grain. Ramayana (Rama’s journey) is one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India written by sage Valmiki around 500 BCE. It presents the teachings of ancient Hindu in narrative allegory with philosophical and ethical elements. The book narrates the life of Rama, prince of the legendary kingdom of Kosala. It is considered a sacred book, read by millions of people every year. The story follows his fourteen-year exile to the forest with his wife Sita and his eventual return to be crowned king after saving his wife from the evil kidnaper Ravana. Very well made and skillfully carved. Extremely beautiful and unique. In great condition except for some cracks on tendrils and base of the wood.
