We believe that the image depicts his young blind daughter who is sitting quietly listening to a songbird perched on a birch tree. We believe this to be the original version capturing her with her eyes shut. We also believe that some later versions had other differences in the background or in color, and that it dates back to circa the 1920s. The print is marked as follows: © SAMUEL SCHIFF CO. N.Y. The visible part of the print measures roughly 11 11/16“ x 8 11/16“. The frame measures roughly 13 1/4“ x 10 1/4“ x 11/16“. It weighs roughly 1 lb 6 oz. The print has aging, fading/age toning, some nicks, and some printing imperfections, but otherwise looks to be in fair shape (see pictures). The frame has aging, wear, fading, scratches, nicks, dings, chips, dirty and/or dusty areas, and chipping to the painted surfaces throughout. The paper covered backing has aging, discoloration, small and large tears, and dirty and/or stained areas. The rear of the frame has an attached hanging wire which might be original to the frame. The glass looks to be free of any chips or cracks but does have some manufacturing imperfections.
