Description: Absolutely beautiful antique #9 skillet with gate mark and double pour spouts in beautiful condition for age. Handle style suggests possible New York pattern. Handle style and double pour spouts suggest it was produced circa ~1870s to 1890s. Lightweight for its size, on my scale it weighs 3 lbs 8.1 oz (or 1.59 kg). Restored, no cracks. Sits flat despite gatemark. Has some casting irregularities and utensil scratches which add to its character, please see pictures. Gate marks are relics of a previous, older method of casting cookware, often dating to pre-1900. It looks like a bump or "scar" on the bottom of the piece, and is where the piece was broken off from its mold during the casting process. Please refer to pictures as they are of the actual item. These cast iron pieces have been carefully restored by stripping them down to bare metal by natural means. No sand blasting, wire wheels, or any other such equipment is ever on any of my restorations, so as to respect the original craftsmanship and historical character of the iron's surface. As such, natural irregularities in the iron's surface will be present, which can include casting flaws, pitting, or utensil nicks. Please refer to pictures for details specific to each piece. Each piece of cookware is seasoned 3 times with grapeseed oil as it provides a good foundation base and is a more transparent, lighter colored seasoning so buyers know exactly the condition of the iron they are purchasing. Thanks for looking!
