I don't know much about this piece, but it is my understanding they were commonly used by machinists as well as in the airplane building, ship building and surveying industries. This collimator appears to be constructed of bronze or brass with a black finish. When you look through the collimator there is a grid pattern view-able through each eyepiece. There is some debris in the collimator. There appears to be a little mold commonly seen in antique cameras on both objective lens.
