Description: This is a Grand Tour Souvenir from what was then the exciting new discovery of Pompeii. It is a well-made bronze copy of a double wick lamp found in the Archaeological Museum of Naples Italy. The lamp is decorated with leaf and floral decorations and capped with a wonderful Owl figure. It has been mounted on a marble base inscribed “IO SONO UNA LAMPADA CH'ARDE, SOAVE!” Or, “I am a lamp that burns, So Let’s Go!”. This is a large piece that is 9.5” wide x 6” deep x 5’5” tall. It is cast in massive bronze weighs a hefty four pounds. The lamp shows its age in wear but does not seem to have any real defects. I am guessing this may have been electrified at one time but is so it was removed before I obtained it. My items are sold as found and information about the provenance varies greatly. Please look carefully at the pictures as the best description of condition, and request additional pictures or specific information if needed. Questions are always welcome. Shipping will be by USPS Priority Mail to the lower 48.
