Description: Fascinating antique darner - needle case - thread holder combo. 150 years old! Patented No. 10, 1874. Research shows that it was patented by Elizabeth Harley of Haddonfield, NJ and introduced at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition. Made completely of wood and threaded top and bottom. The thin neck is a needle case/glove darner and base holds the thread which then comes out of the hole in this section. Both the top and the bottom screw on tightly and easily. The needle case top has 2 splits (shown in photo 14) but they do not affect use and the cap still screws on properly. The original paper label inside the cap is in excellent condition! Reads "Harley's Complete Darner for Darning, Embroidering and Glove Mending. Patented Nov. 10, 1874". Measures 6" tall by 1-75" across the base. A rare find and fantastic addition to your collection...or an incredible gift for the sewing collector! It will be packaged to arrive safely.NOTE: The thread and needles shown in photo #1 do not come with this item. PLEASE VIEW ALL PHOTOS, they are part of the description! All items are used so I do not know where they have been and I use recycled boxes and packing materials...but we are a non-smoking household, just FYI.
