Description: Please allow 4 to 8 weeks for me to make this table. This item is a very nice harvest table or desk that I made from the reclaimed lumber from a 120 year old barn that I tore down. It is made of rescued antique heart pine. Heart pine is generally considered to be recycled timber from first generation trees (trees that were standing when the first settlers landed in the 1600s). Most of the trees were long leaf pines, many as old as 300+ years. There were approximately 80,000,000 acres of these trees and almost all were gone by 1900. This wood was the primary building material for homes and factories. It is now being recycled as heart pine. It was a widely utilized timber throughout our history for traditional flooring, construction, dock pilings and was the timber of choice during the colonial period for British ship masts. Most structures built after 1900 were from second generation trees and do not exhibit the very tight growth rings associated with the first generation timber. Today, heart pine is reclaimed predominantly from old industrial buildings and warehouses, where it was a favorite for it’s massive dimensions and strength. The dimensions of this table are 84" long by 36" wide by 30" tall. The drawers are 22" wide by 24" deep and have antique bin pulls or wooden knobs for handles. The top is made from the old 2 by 12 boards that were the hayloft floor joists of the old barn. Some of these tables have natural distress marks such as worm holes and marks, nail holes from the old square nails, saw marks and knots associated with pine. If you would like less distress marks let me know. The legs are a turned husky style leg and measure 5" at the top. These tables are very difficult and time consuming to make as they are made by hand like the antique furniture of the 19th century. The tables are very beautiful as the old pine has a very nice grain and color to it that cannot be duplicated with new lumber. The wood is very hard. The table is finished by hand with 4 coats of a hand rubbed satin polyurethane varnish on it for durability. THESE TABLES ARE VERY WELL MADE UNLIKE TODAYS MODERN FURNITURE AND WILL LAST A VERY LONG TIME IF TAKEN CARE OF JUST LIKE ANTIQUE FURNITURE HAS. PLEASE SEE MY EBAY STORE FOR OTHER NICE TABLES I MAKE.
