Description: I am listing an antique (circa 1880) Japanese boldly executed moon form ikebana basket made of smoked bamboo with variegated patina. The body of the basket is a hexagonal plait (mutsume‐ami) frame developed into an irregular plait (midare). Artistically inserted tendrils of wisteria root and wefts of rattan reinforce and accent the basket. The handle is attractively detailed with three large interlocking V knots (kunoji‐musubi). The bottom is done in chrysanthemum plaiting (kiku‐ami) and is reinforced with thick bamboo inserts. Original hand hammered copper lining. Super rare moon-form basket with original copper lining; excellent condition; no damage or repairs. Remarkable condition for its age. The basket is unsigned. Dimensions: 18.5 x 19 x 7 inches. Provenance/Background: If you're familiar with high end Japanese art & antiques, I acquired this basket from Midori Gallery, Florida some years ago, and have treasured it ever since. Offered here at a terrific price. You won't find a finer example. In addition to the affordable price, I am offering free shipping & handling. The basket will be carefully packed and shipped UPS. (Apologies to international customers, but selling to U.S. based customers only.) I welcome any questions you may have.
