Antique Landers Frary & Clark Universal Silver Pitcher, US Navy / Cruise Lines

Description: Vintage Silver PitcherUnited StatesUniversalLanders, Frary & Clark Up for auction is a vintage, insulated, handled, silver plate pitcher with its original cover / lid. The pitcher stands approximately 10 inches tall (when measured to the top of the cover), and the round base measures approximately 4.625 inches across in diameter. The pitcher has two sections of linear banding (at both the base and near the center); four vertical dimpled sections with engraved metal work (to the upper half); and two raised metal work shields (also located on the upper half). Inside one shield is "UNITED STATES", while inside the second shield is an enameled red, white and blue flag or pennant with a single silver star in its center. The pitcher was made by Landers, Frary and Clark, of New Britain, Connecticut, which is stamped onto the base, along with: "UNIVERSAL". Unfortunately, I do not know the provenance of this piece. Given the two shields, it is possible that it was made for either the United States Navy, a United States yacht, or for the SS United States cruise ship, that was operated by United States Lines in the 1950's. The pitcher itself is in very good, vintage condition, with no dents, dings, cracks, scratches, repairs, nor any other damage that I can detect, other then some very minor wear to the silver plate finish. However, one corner of the enameled flag (the top left area of the red section) is chipped to white. In addition, the cover / lid has several dents to the top section, and its cork liner is missing.
