Antique Large Japanese Wood Black Lacquer Document Writing Lock Box Divided Tray

Description: This is a very large 19th Century Japanese wood writing/document box. It is 15 inches wide, 10 1/2 inches deep and 6 3/4 inches tall. It has a lock but I do not have the key. The box is lacquered black with gold and rusty red decoration. The top looks like it might be Mount Fuji with a water way leading to land with buildings. Birds flying and 2 boats are in the water. The hills and boats are "raised" giving it a dimensional effect. Upon opening, there is a removeable divided tray I assume used for writing implements, inks etc. The tray has 2 sections that have lids with finials to open. The knobs are attached with a rivet. When you remove the tray there is a deep opening for documents. The box sits on 4 bun feet. With the tray removed the interior of box is 4 inches deep. The tray is 2 inches tall. There is some age appropriate loss to the black enameling as shown. The interior of the box is still pretty shiny. All around the perimeter is gold and red decoration of leaves, sprigs and flowers. It is in solid condition but not perfect due to age. Very large so will require large box for shipping. PLEASE LOOK at all the pictures for condition and dimensions. I am not an expert on Asian Art but I have lots of it. I just buy what I like. I will try to answer questions if you have any. My guess is this is from around 1880.
