Description: WOW!These are old!!! A matching/related pair! The larger of the two has some age-induced verdigris (greens into blues) on the deep recess on the back (i.e. a bright bluish-green encrustation or patina formed on copper or brass by atmospheric oxidation, consisting of copper carbonate.)Both have monks in the scene and both are a dog/wolf in the scene too!I got these at a catholic thrift shop!I'm not sure what they were originally... perhaps religious adornments on some sort of ropes... or maybe part of a family crest?Doing some quick google searches leads to some intriguing results such as: the Lingard-Monk family crest that as a very similar picture of a dog/wolf figure on it... makes you start to wonder. The square holes at the top of each are very crude and essentially look pounded/stamped out. (I believe the lower, round, hole on the larger item was done after-the-fact and is not original to them)Smaller one doesn't lay flat, it has a very faint curl to the piece. My gut tells me these hail from the end of the medieval period.. circa 1500s... although you're certainly the expert here if you're looking at these. These fall away outside of my specific area of interest... although I do love antiques! They look english to me; I suspect they made it down through multiple generations and later were adorned for something like christmas ornaments, until the oral legacy failed to be passed down and someone sadly discard them without a true appreciation for their age and family story.Yeah, cash is nice, but I truly hope these make it back to the hands of someone that appreciates and understands what they really are more than I can. If they're not for you, but you can educate me more, I'd love to have a moment of your precious time. They both have their left arm crossed over their chests. And the larger one appears to have some sort of religious cross on his arm... I'd imagine to the right person these two features would be very telling to their age and origins. They are approximately 4.5" T x 2.5" W & 3.5" T x 2.0" W respectively.
